Where I Went, What I Bought, What My Dogs Did

The heat arrived in Paris. I adjusted — inside — repeatedly, and with purpose.

Where I Went

95°F in a city that treats air conditioning as a moral weakness. I have never been more American.

Marché Saint Pierre to embellish my Versailles costume. Montmartre, the area surrounding, is full of merceries and fabric stores in addition to cool vibes and restaurants. If it hadn’t been the hottest day in Paris of the year I would have stayed all day.

Galeries Lafayette three times in one week, each for a separate task. One: a weekend meander with my teenage daughter. Two: a shoe hunt with my neighbor for a special occasion. Three: a return to the Patou section for a necklace I should have purchased the first time. Galeries Lafayette is notoriously packed — especially the beauty floor — but all three visits this week were quiet and, dare I say, pleasant. Luck, or something better.

What I Did

A much needed haircut — 4 fingers— with Jacopo at David Mallet. He shared the pros and cons of his recent trip to Malta. I promised to speak in Italian by our next appointment.

I joined Snapchat. After reading about Carson Daly downloading the app to communicate with his teenage daughter — and finding it worked better than real life conversation — I understood immediately. A week later, I'd agree. Whatever works.

What I Ate

Handrolls at DokiDoki in Montmarte. A girls lunch at Riviera Fuga on the Seine. Heart shaped pizza from Marcello in 16ème and a French Mother’s Day celebration at Anna in the 8ème— one of my reliable go to’s.

Omakase at Hanada, a newer Japanese spot in the 7ème. No photographs allowed but the courses did not disappoint. Highlights: tofu croquettes topped with caviar as an muse-bouche and a super sized maki to close the meal. Exceptional omakase are hard to find in Paris. This was one I’ll remember. 10/10.

What I Bought

Heart pendant from Patou. Byredo hair mist. A selection of summer whites to beat Paris’s heat wave from Mango, Anine Bing, and Ganni. Troves of lace trimmings from Marché Saint Pierre.

What My Dogs Did

Avoided the heat at all cost.
