Foreign, Technically- One by One
Where I Went, What I Ate, What I Did
June in Paris has a particular energy. Everything feels like a prelude.
Where I Went
French Open, for the first time. Roland Garros sits perfectly between buttoned-up Wimbledon and whatever the US Open is. As a first time attendee, I immediately hit the gift shop: sweatshirts, t-shirts, a Panama hat, and a tennis-themed pen for my husband. From there, the men’s quarter finals — including Flavio Cobolli, who made it all the way to the finals — then the food court, then the orangerie for women’s doubles. Tennis aficionado or not, it earns a visit. If you prefer vibes over actual tennis, a grounds pass covers all the non-competition fun — there’s a jumbo screen with chic chairs if you want to watch without committing to a court.
What I Did
My Versailles Ball shoes arrived. I hand-embellished them with pearls, one by one, while watching Homeland. I’m now on season four. Pearls have officially become a running theme for my costume at this point.

Went to see Nikki Glaser's Stunning tour at a venue in the 18ème. Some material overlapped with her recent Netflix special — still just as funny the second time. What was more interesting than the jokes themselves: watching a distinctly American comedian deliver distinctly American humor to a predominantly French crowd. The translation, cultural and otherwise, was its own kind of entertainment. Her dress was really cute.
What I Bought
Zodiac glasses and napkins from the new Marisa Berenson x Zara collaboration to accompany my placemats and coasters; a nail binder to organize and house my press-on nails from Japan; jorts1 and basic tees from Uniqlo.
Jorts
A combination of the words “jeans” and “shorts.” Typically shin length. Mixed reviews.
What I Ate
A Brazilian BBQ with friends — picanha on the grill, which was a welcome change from French entrecôte and a reminder of time spent in Brazil with family. Some meals do double duty.
A taco party at home for the Champions League. I used to make tacos regularly in the US and had forgotten how reliably they improve a mood. 10/10.
What My Dogs Did
Bath time for my little dog. Imported Italian shampoo, a Fendi pet towel, and a blow dry with my Refa blowdryer. My big dog enjoyed the cooler temperatures doing what he does best: nothing.
Notes from Paris, to follow.
